UNDATED, Ala. (AP) -- Law enforcement agencies across the state
are urging citizens to refrain from celebratory gunfire associated
with New Year revelry. Mobile Police Chief Phillip Garrett, in a
statement Friday, announced a zero tolerance policy on gunfire.
Alabama law classifies celebratory gunfire as reckless
endangerment -- a Class A misdemeanor.
The criminal charge will be upgraded to a felony if the bullet
hits someone or something.
