Gulf Shores firefighters were at it again Tuesday when a fire that started five days ago re-ignited.
A column of smoke was the first warning something was brewing. Gulf Shores Fire Chief Tim Blakemore says he believes Friday's fire went underground and Tuesday's strong easterly winds rekindled the blaze. Flames reached 12 to 15 feet in the air as the flames raced towards highway 59.
The fire started Friday night. Several witnesses report seeing either one or two flairs over the state park marsh. The fire burned into Saturday morning but had been dormant until today.
Park officials estimate 60 to 70 acres have burned but so far no structures have been lost and no one has been injured.
