The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office started looking for a grandmother and three children Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m. in and around the Styx River. Family members reported them missing after they did not return for a canoe trip. They were supposed to get out of the river at 2:30pm but missed their exit point at Waterworld Road. Searchers from several area volunteer firefighters helped out in the search.A Baldwin County EMS Supervisor told News 5 that a medivac helicopter spotted the woman and children around 10:35 p.m. Searchers on the ground arrived a few minutes later. The woman and children had been out of the water since 10:00 a.m. They were found about 7 miles down river from their exit point, which is a mile south of I-10.
Medical crews met the searchers and missing people where the Styx River meets Interstate 10. All appear to have been okay. News 5 has a crew on the scene. Stay tuned to the News 5 morning show for more information.
