TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Hall of Fame baseball legends Jim
Palmer and Reggie Jackson made a pitch today for Florida's
Grapefruit League.
Former Major Leaguer Rick Dempsey joined Palmer and Jackson at
the state Capitol to meet with Governor Charlie Crist about the
spring training issue.
Crist says he wants the state to do whatever it can to keep
baseball teams in Florida for spring training because it generates
money for the economy and creates a special atmosphere.
The governor says he is willing to consider tax breaks for teams
to keep them from leaving the state.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Indians are leaving the
Grapefruit League and the Cincinnati Reds are talking about moving
from Sarasota to Arizona.
