The City of Prichard says a natural gas leak was reported in several areas Tuesday afternoon. They say people living in the areas around Eight Mile, Love Joy Loop, Lott Road, High Point Blvd, Shelton Beach Road, and Brunswick Drive smell fumes.

Wes Phillips with Mobile Gas says there is not actually a leak. He says lightning struck a line that carries odorant to the gas pipe line. He says that happened near the Whistler Station. Crews have repaired the problem. They have actually been working on it for more than a day. Mobile Gas does not know when the odorant line was struck.

Mobile Gas says the odor people are smelling does not have a health risk.
