MOBILE, ALA. — The Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center is celebrating nine years of educational outreach on the Gulf Coast! Throughout the month of September, visitors can enjoy specials and discounts geared toward children, adults and members, including free admission on “Community Appreciation Day,” Saturday, September 15. “Since September of 1998, the Exploreum has provided Gulf Coast audiences of all ages engaging opportunities for informal learning in historic downtown Mobile,” said Michael W. Sullivan, Director of the Exploreum. “As we continue to promote science literacy by expanding our permanent exhibit halls and hosting blockbuster traveling exhibits, we wanted to express our gratitude to the community for their generous support and patronage over the years.”
With free admission, visitors can also experience more than 100 hands-on interactive exhibits in one of the Exploreum’s five permanent halls. In the Minds On Hall, a virtual reality gallery, you can build a virtual fish, a dancer or even your own roller coaster—and then ride it! In the Virtual Theater, experience the universe on a screen the size of an 18-wheeler or conduct experiments with our mad scientist in the state-of-the-art laboratory, the CIBA Lab. In the Hands On Hall, dance in front of the shadow wall, broadcast your own news segment in the WKRG TV studio, test your musical prowess with the laser harp, and much more.
The Exploreum will be closed for annual maintenance from Monday, September 24, through Friday, September 28.
