The phone rings and a voice on the other end threaten to molest a grandchild if you hang up. That phone call landed a former Escambia County school teacher in jail for more than just making crank calls, according to the FBI, John McNair had 160 thousand pornographic images on his computer, three thousand images printed out mostly of children, 100 nude Barbie dolls and children’s underwear. Neighbors say they knew McNair was different, but they never expected this. An overgrown corner lot is where FBI agents came looking for McNair. "He was arrested for child porno." Marcus Toop lives next door. "They finally got him to come outside and he's coming out no shirt, no shoes, they got him they cuff him and put 'em inside." An investigation began after McNair allegedly made obscene out-of-state phone calls that were later tracked to Escambia County, Florida. "They found his underground bunker place but I'm not all sure what he was keeping back there," says Toop. McNair had lived here for more than a decade, neighbors say he pretty much kept to himself but he did say one thing he values his privacy. "It's hard for me to believe it right now." For 13 years Lloyd Beasley shared a property line and not much else with McNair. "He was a loner. I haven't seen him or spoken to him in about a year now." Beasley says McNair had a host of jobs, “He's had a dozen jobs since I've known him photographer, massage work, wrecking yard.” According to Ronnie Arnold he was also a teacher for the Escambia County School System. "We're not mind-readers, we don't have crystal balls we're not fortune tellers we have to go by a persons past history and his past history reveals nothing that would have indicated any kind of behavior like that." Neighbors like Toop are just as stunned. "I always thought he was kind of quiet. I didn't exactly see this coming." McNair will not be coming home soon; a judge has ordered him jailed until his trial. McNair worked at Bellview Middle School as a science teacher for two months in 2004 and more recently was a substitute teacher at Jim Allen Elementary School.
