"It was a very eventful Sunday," says James Harris as he walks around his yard near Loxley. "I thought I was going to cut grass, instead I was under siege."
Harris' neighbor, Edward Lichty is charged with attempted murder after a four hour standoff with police. "Pretty much it all happened from back here, back of his property which you can see clearly from mine," says Harris.
It all started with a call to 911 says Baldwin County Sheriff Hoss Mack. "One of the officers said it just didn't feel right from the time they got there and while they were trying to attempt to see if there was anyone in the trailer located at the residence, the police officers vehicle was shot."
It was Loxley police officer who arrived on the scene first and immediately two shots rang out. The first struck the tire the second went through the body of the truck. Two guns were confiscated says Mack, "We recovered two rifles, a .30'06 and a .22 caliber rifle."
"I have to admit just sitting there being a target is not up my alley," says Harris who led police onto his property. "You could hear him back there crying for help."
After hours of negotiations, Lichty was arrested. In addition to the million dollar bond, Lichty will also be required to undergo an mental health evaluation, will be monitored electronically and cannot possess or use a firearm.
