Acting on citizen tips, Jackson County Mississippi Sheriff's Department say they searched the Ocean Sprigns home of Demas Shockley and found over $5,000 in drugs. Investigators also found several thousands of dollars in property, which they believe was purchased with drug money. The Sheriff's Department arrested 36-year old Shockley and 36-year old Verbie Tatum, also of Ocean Springs, MS.

Shockley was a former volunteer fireman with the West Jackson County Volunteer Fire Department. Last year, he took a leave of absence and never returned. During the search, agents recovered firefighting gear and radios from Shockley's residence which will be returned to the Jackson County Fire District.

Demas Shockley has been charged with:
Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) With the Intent to Distribute While in Possession of a Firearm.
Possession of a Controlled Substance (Crack/Cocaine) With the Intent to Distribute While in Possession of a Firearm.
Sale of a Controlled Substance (Crack/Cocaine)
Possession of a Controlled Substance (Morphine) With the Intent to Distribute While in Possession of a Firearm

Verbie Tatum is charged with:
Possession of a Controlled Substance (Crack/Cocaine) With the Intent to Distribute While in Possession of a Firearm
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Both subjects are currently at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center waiting an initial appearance.
