TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Advocates and students affected by
bullying say proposed anti-bullying legislation doesn't go far
enough.
Legislation currently under consideration specifically bans
sexual, racial and religious harassment.
Advocates want to add protection from bullying based on physical
appearance, ethnicity, nationality and sexual orientation.
Members of The Florida Safe Schools Coalition and Equality
Florida made their case for the expanded language today at the
Capitol.
They found support from Representative Shelley Vana. The Lantana
democrat says a more specific list of prohibitions would give
teachers and administrators more of the tools they need to fight
the problem.
