A fire burned through one of Mobile's many Mardi Gras float barns Tuesday night. The Mobile Fire Department responded to a fire at the Maids of Mirth float barn at South Conception and Pillans Streets in downtown Mobile. Fire Department spokesman Steve Huffman says the two alarm fire destroyed all the contents inside the barn but the building itself is alright. The fire began around 8:45pm and took about twenty minutes to put out. Huffman says there was no one there at the time the fire started and they may not know tonight was started the fire.
Ten floats were destroyed in the fire which was contained to the one building.
The Maids of Mirth have been a Mardi Gras assocation for the past 59 years.
