The first lady is fighting to keep our coastal waters clean.
Friday, Laura Bush spoke to a group of fifth graders, educators and conservationists in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
She told them everyone needs to work together to fight pollution in oceans and other waterways.
Mrs. Bush said people's bad behavior can destroy our most precious resource and the wildlife that live in water.
"We would see the little carcasses and when we would look in them we would see cigarette lighters, toothbrushes, bottle caps and toys, toy cars, the little tires from toys, every single type of plastic that we all know we use everyday," said First Lady Laura Bush.
J.L. Scott Marine Education Center in Ocean Springs also received a national designation as a coastal ecosystem learning center.
