State and federal agents are investigating a fire that heavily damaged the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Foley Monday afternoon. The blaze broke out around 2pm at the popular thrift store on Highway 59. The initial 9-1-1 call went out as a brush fire behind the building, but by the time fire crews arrived on the scene, the blaze was quickly spreading through the back of the building.

"We made sure we got everyone out," says manager Edith Eslava. "It all happened so fast, we called 9-1-1 and tried to put out the fire with our extinguishers but they were no match for the fire."

Fire crews battled the fire for over an hour. The thrift store received heavy smoke damage which could keep the store closed for several days.

"At least nobody was hurt," says Eslava. "But we've got a lot of cleaning up to do. A lot of work."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A huge Congratulations to Manager Edith and Her entire Staff for the progress on the Salvation Army store Renovation!
There has been alot of hard work going on there, and I am so happy for all of you!
I know you are all eager to return to work.
My prayers are with you all, I hope to see you all again soon!
God Bless!

I would like to say that I am not only proud of my two employees Jean and Tommie, but also the workers in the back that tried dilligently to put the fire out with our extinguishers, the lady customer that told us about the fire, but especially the Foley Fire Department crew. Yes I am proud of our community and it’s people.  I am more greatful than words can express that everyone was where they needed to be and did what they were led to do. I witnessed what true teamwork is all about.  No one was hurt and our building is still standing.  Thankyou to all our customers and those we serve.  We will be up and running as soon possible.  Thank you and God Bless.  Edith - Store Manager.

I am So Proud of the Salvation Army Girls!
Jean and Tommy~you are both Brave, Smart Women who jumped in and acted when an Emergency presented itself!
You’re quick thinking saved many from injury and saved the store from being a total loss!
You should work for the Foley FD in your spare time.
I am proud of you both!
