It was pomp and circumstance at the USA Mitchell Center.
Several area schools held graduation ceremonies Tuesday.
News Five caught up with the final class of Shaw High School.
After 41 years, the Mobile County Public School system voted to close the school at the end of the year.
Ten students chose to stay with the school instead of being transferred.
Class President Cameron Gonzalez says he's glad he's a Shaw graduate.
"All the memories that you have through your high school years, from 9th grade onto now, this would be the most memorable part though, having ten students graduate from a high school that has been around for good little while and now they're finally closing the doors today and you it's a big change for all of us," said Shaw High School Class President Cameron Gonzalez.
In the late 1960's, Shaw High School had more than 1600 students in attendance.
Now that Shaw is officially closed, the Mobile County Public School System still has not decided what to do with the empty building.

Now all the sudden the school is being shut down? What gives? Seems like another HUGE waste of taxpayers money!

This story implies that their graduation took place at the Mitchell Center at South. Is that correct? Another example of why I still say a full audit should be done on the School Systems books.

But noone can understand why the MCPSS is in such bad shape? It doesn’t take a brain scientist!

According to the newspaper over the weekend each students education cost as much as going to Harvard, their lunches were sometimes transported from Hillsdale. And according to WKRG’s video bus service looks to be provided as well. Wow!! Thats like attending a private school for free. I think alot of us some how got the short end of the stick on this deal.
