Ken Scarbrough and his wife have been driving their RV cross country for years. But these days their routine has changed. "We're going to go back out to the Grand Canyon instead of staying four or five days we might stay two weeks out there,"Said Scarbrough. Scarbrough says his RV is a gas guzzler and at $300 to fill it up, what would have been a one day adventure on Dauphin Island, has now turned in to several days of leisure. "Buy stock in Exxon that's the only thing I can tell you, they're making a fortune..nobody else is,"Said Scarbrough. If you ask anyone at Fort Gaines camp grounds, they'll tell you the same thing. David Silcox says his family heads to Dauphin Island every year for vacation. The Butler native says it costs around $200 to lug his camper and boat. "I hope I have enough friends that want to go fishing that will help me with the gas,"Said Silcox.
But despite having to reach deeper in their pockets this year...for these folks it's the fun that outweighs the costs. "We ain't going to let a little fuel prices stop us, we're going to hang in there tough with them,"Said Silcox. "I bought this thing I'm not going to let it sit, I don't care if gasoline gets to $10.00 a gallon..this things going to roll,"Said Scarbrough.
