Their lives came to a tragic end, when they were hit and killed on Bromley Road in a Labor Day car crash. Today Baldwin County cyclists "Art" Clemons Jr. and "Bill" Imle were remembered in a "Ride of Silence" in Bay Minette.
Some of these cyclists had never met before. They share a passion for cycling but this ride was like no other.
"We're all brothers and sisters out on the road and it's just I think we really care for each other." Said Fred Krhut, Cyclist.
A bond so great it brought over three-hundred cyclists to Bay Minette for a seven mile long "Ride of Silence". A ride to pay tribute to two men who loved the sport, just as much as them. "It's pretty emotional, I'm not often at a loss for words but it's pretty powerful. It's an awesome tribute." Said, Mary Trufant, "Ride of Silence"organizer.
Trufant said it was important to organize this "Ride of Silence" to let both drivers and cyclists know to take more caution when sharing the road.
Trufant said although she was surprised over the turnout, she never doubted the support of the cyclist community.
"It's a kindred spirit you know? And I know had it been anyone else Art and Bill would have been here for them you know. It's that kind of group of people." Said, Trufant.
The Spanish Fort United Methodist Church has setup a fund for the children of Art Clemons Jr. and Bill Imle.
