ATLANTA (AP) - The FAA says a communication failure is causingflight delays of 16 to 45 minutes involving some three dozen major
airports across the country.
The FAA Web site is advising passengers to check their departure
airport to see if their flight is affected.
The problem is at a Georgia facility that processes flight plans
for the eastern half of the U.S. The facility is unable to transmit
data to another facility in Salt Lake City, which means Salt Lake
City has to process flight plans by itself, causing delays in
takeoffs. There's no problem with planes landing.
An FAA spokeswoman in Atlanta says there are no safety issues
and officials are still able to speak to pilots on planes on the
ground and in the air.
Locally Mobile Regional Airport asks that passengers check with their airline to see if their flight has been delayed before heading to the airport. Airline 1-800 numbers are available at www.mobairport.com. For the direct link, click below:
