A fan threw a large firecracker onto the court during the fourth quarter of a professional basketball game in Jerusalem on Sunday, wounding a security guard. The game between Hapoel Jerusalem and Hapoel Holon was broadcast live on TV. Fans watching at home could clearly hear the blast and then saw a white cloud of smoke and the security guard falling over. The security guard lost three fingers in the blast. Today, surgeons successfully reattached his fingers.
Police say a 20-year-old Hapoel Holon fan confessed to throwing the firecracker. But they're not convinced he acted alone and are investigating whether his two friends were involved. Police are also investigating how the fan managed to smuggle the device past the arena's security.
