The Escambia County Sheriff's Office is searching for a prisoner who escaped Thursday night during a smoke break.
Deputies discovered 25-year-old Timothy Smith was missing during a routine head count. During a search of the Escambia County Road Camp on Highway 297A in Cantonment, a deputy found several holes that had been cut in the perimiter fence. The Sheriff's Office believes Smith climbed the fence surrounding the smoking area and then escaped through one of those holes.
Smith was supposed to stand trial Friday on Burglary charges. Deputies believe he's headed to his girlfriend's house in Brewton. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Crimestoppers at 850.433.STOP.
