10:00 a.m.- Victim: 88 year old Marie Mintz
- A carrier with the Press-Register discovered the fire and called 911. She then knocked on neighbors doors to warn them of the fire.
- Firefighters arrived 8 minutes later and found Mintz lying on the floor of her bedroom. They got her out of the house but she had already died from the smoke and heat of the fire.
- Investigators are looking into the cause but say it does not appear to be suspicious.
- According to neighbors and the victim's granddaughter. Mintz was a heavy smoker.
- Damage is estimated at $80,000
5:56 a.m.
An 88-year-old female died in a house fire Monday morning. Firefighters responded to the call about 5am on Somerby Lane in West Mobile. They found the woman inside the residence and pulled her out. She was pronounced dead on the scene. We'll bring you more information on this incident as it becomes available.

Kudos to the Press Register delivery person for noticing the smoke and investigating and notifying neighbors. It is a shame this poor lady is gone but at least the delivery person was not afraid to get involved.
