64-year old Jay Robbins of Pensacola is charged with armed robbery after he reportedly tried to hold up a 76 year old campground employee.According to the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Paul Ehler was sitting in the office of the Tall Oaks Campground late Frday morning when Robbins walked in and announced the robbery.
Ehler says Robbins was armed with a .44 caliber revolver and ordered him to sit down. Ehler says when Robbins started fumbling for a white rope to tie him up, he saw his chance to turn the tables on the would-be robber.
Ehler says he wrestled with Robbins and managed to take the gun away from him. He then held Robbins at gunpoint until officers arrived.
According to Sheriff's investigators, Robbins explained that he didn't intend to hurt Ehler and that he was desperate.
Robbins was booked into the Escambia County Jail in Pensacola where bond was set at $50,000.
