BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - A 71-year-old man has been charged withbank robbery after authorities say he threatened to set off an
explosive device.
Authorities found no explosive device yesterday (Wednesday)
after Charles DeBart Griggs was pulled over by Ocean Springs
police.
He was arrested shortly after a Hancock Bank branch in Biloxi
reported a holdup and bomb threat.
Griggs, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has been charged with
simple robbery and false reporting of placing explosives.
Biloxi Police Captain Darrin Peterson says the suspect demanded
money and told the branch manager he had explosives strapped to his
body and he would detonate it if his demands weren't met.
Griggs was being held today (Thursday) at the Harrison County
jail under a $300,000 bond set by Justice Court Judge Albert
Fountain.
