A Fort Walton Beach woman is arrested after leading deputies from two departments on a drunken chase across the Florida Panhandle. The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office contacted Santa Rosa County Deputies around 2:45 this morning. They were chasing a pickup truck on Highway 98. As it crossed the county line, Santa Rosa County Deputies picked up the chase.
When Michelle Haws refused to stop for lights and sirens, Santa Rosa County Deputies deployed a spike strip which punctured her tires. But Haws refused to give up.
The chase eventually ended when all four tires came off Haws' truck. Haws told deputies that she knew what she was doing, but wanted to give them "some excitement."
Haws was taken to the Santa Rosa County Jail where blood samples revealed her blood alcohol level was .147, nearly twice the legal limit. She's charged with DUI, running from police, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license. Bond was set at $6,750.
