The Baldwin County Coroner’s Office says the man who drowned Monday while conducting seismic tests near the Little River community is 25-year-old Denis J. Ullao Maldonado of Houston, Texas.

According to the Alabama Marine Police, Maldonado fell into a swampy area and disappeared around 11:00 a.m. Sometime before 1:00 p.m., co-workers recovered his body.

Maldonado was part of a crew conducting seismic tests near Brickyard Lake. During those tests, controlled explosions or vibrations create sound waves in the earth's surface. Geophysical instruments are used to record seismic data. The process is similar to what happens during an earthquake.
