What people do not realize is that islands like Dauphin Island are barrier islands that move continuously and cause extreme changes in currents. In addition, hurricanes cause many channels out in the water that increase rip currents.
People can be cautious, but there is a very high risk with islands like Dauphin Island.
My condolences go out to the family.
