David Dirmeyer with the U.S. Postal Inspector's Office says what happened in Alabama Village was rare. "We deal with customers that are angry about their checks not arriving, and they get angry and make a verbal threat to a carrier,"Said Dirmeyer. But Prichard Police say just yesterday a mailman was shot with a pellet gun while delivering mail around Dekalb and Colbert Streets. Dirmeyer says assaulting a postal employee is a Federal offense with up to 20 years of prison time. Just last month Mobile Police arrested 20-year-old Brandon Spencer for assaulting a mailman with a knife, on New Saint Francis Street."When they're on the street six days a week, every house in town..it's inevitable that you'll have some problems eventually..but we don't think there is going to be anymore in the future," said Dirmeyer.
The postal inspectors office says the mailman had minor injuries and he even returned to work today. Meantime, Prichard Police are looking for two teens who they believe were involved in the shooting. If you have any information you are urged to call Prichard Police or you can call the U.S. Postal Inspector's Office at 251-405-8601.
