"If this dog could talk, he could tell us who and when and where and even how this happened, but I'll bet he'd ask these same questions we have....why? Why?" says Jones.
Construction crews working on the Highway 113 expansion project near Flomaton told authorities they noticed the pick-up dragging the animal up the road. They say the truck and two other cars then stopped in the middle of the road, cut the rope and left the dying dog along the side of the road.
"There was a big rope around his neck and I pulled the rope off," says Gil Ralls with Ralls Construction. "It's terrible, it's heartbreaking. I've got dogs and I just can't imagine somebody doing this to an animal."
The pitbull, named "Sam" by animal control investigators, was bruised, bloody and in a lot of pain. Sam's injuries were so severe, the dog had to be euthanized. A 27-hundred dollar reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest in the case.
"Somebody knows something," says Jones. "Any type of phone call or help could lead to justice for this helpless animal."
