Animal cruelty officers in Escambia County, Alabama, are investigating a horrible case of animal abuse. Investigator Renee Jones says a pitbull was tied up to the back of a pick-up truck and then dragged for miles down Highway 113 in Flomaton.

"If this dog could talk, he could tell us who and when and where and even how this happened, but I'll bet he'd ask these same questions we have....why? Why?" says Jones.

Construction crews working on the Highway 113 expansion project near Flomaton told authorities they noticed the pick-up dragging the animal up the road. They say the truck and two other cars then stopped in the middle of the road, cut the rope and left the dying dog along the side of the road.

"There was a big rope around his neck and I pulled the rope off," says Gil Ralls with Ralls Construction. "It's terrible, it's heartbreaking. I've got dogs and I just can't imagine somebody doing this to an animal."

The pitbull, named "Sam" by animal control investigators, was bruised, bloody and in a lot of pain. Sam's injuries were so severe, the dog had to be euthanized. A 27-hundred dollar reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest in the case.

"Somebody knows something," says Jones. "Any type of phone call or help could lead to justice for this helpless animal."

we need one of those animal patrols like on television. the animal planet.

But the sad fact, even if they are caught, fines and jail time are minimal-like $3000 and maybe 10years. That is until they go on to kill a person. And how many stories of horrendous animal cruelty go unreported, or worse are investigated and the person is given a “warning” and supposed follow up? It takes acts of vile torture such as this to gain attention of the media, yet it happens every day.

Clark Griswald at it again!!!

The image of that poor dog is etched into my memory.  How can anyone possibly be that cruel?  Such a thing can shake person’s faith in his fellow man.
. Hope the sick @#$@#% that did this is caught and put on public display!

Where we went wrong was taking God out of school, removing corporal punishment and not making people accountable for their actions. I, unfortunatly, am related to someone who never has to pay for the bad choices he makes therefore he thinks he can do whatever he wants, tell whatever self serving lies he needs to and if he gets caught…. oh well. I believe you reap what you sow and whomever did this will eventually get theirs.

i believe this has been going on forever. i saw a special where serial killers start out by animal torture. the ice man scaird me to death. the sad thing his brother was worse than him. i think the media is bringing it more to the publics attention now which is a good thing. this needs to be made a first degree felony. somewhere out there is a serial killer in the making.

You know what’s really sad? I can remember a day when this would have actually SURPRISEDme. These days I just read about it and say to myself “Nothing surprises me anymore” I mean, it seems everyday that I look on this website, it’s nothing but horror stories. What is the world coming to? Where did we go wrong?

i hope they catch who ever did this and hook them up behind a tractor pulling a bush hog. most serial killers start out with animals. the person or persons who did this are very dangerous.

This is a horrible story!
