The National Humane Society has gotten involved in a dog abuse case in Alabama. A $2,500 reward is being offered to help find the person who shot a dog several times. That dog was found in a dumpster in Brewton in Escambia County. She was given the name "Dee-Dee" before she had to be put down because of her injuries

Dee-Dee was shot in the neck, front shoulder and front leg before being tossed as trash. Escambia County Humane Officer Jimmy Jones says she had a shattered backbone too. "It looked like it was hit with something instead of by a vehicle." The abuse made local headlines in Brewton.

Rickey Robinson saw that face in the paper and was sure it was his missing dog. "I was crying coming up that road until I got here. Then, I saw it was a female. I never even read the article. I just saw the picture." It turned out to be a false alarm for Rickey but he's still disgusted by the abuse.

According to workers at the Dollar General store, the manager was throwing trash in the dumpster and saw a little movement. He looked inside and saw Dee-Dee wrapped in a blanket. She was staring up at him.

Jimmy was hopeful at first; Dee-Dee looked like she might make it. "As alert as she was and as responsive as she was, we thought she stood a good chance until after the x-rays and more thorough vet check." He says don’t be fooled by the blanket, it wasn't for comfort. "It was probably wrapped in there to try and conceal it in hopes it would die before somebody noticed it."

The name Dee-Dee was short for Dumpster Dog. Now, the hunt is on for the name of who did this.

Brewton authorities say this is not the first dog shooting they've seen lately. In that past 3 months, 3 dogs have been shot and no one is sure why.

While I know it is necessary to offer a reward to get information-I hope if anyone has the information to get this person arrested and convicted, it will not be for the money. How could anyone in good conscience accept money for doing what is morally right-to get a killer off the streets. And yes this was a dog, but the next killing spree could be in a school (Columbine comes to mind), or a family member or just some innocent person on the street.

How many other animals have been tossed in dumpsters or in drains or just left to die? How many people have shot dogs or other animals-I can think of a few. This is disgusting that anyone would do this to a defenseless animal. It could have been put up for adoption and given a good home. Will this person do this to a baby, or a spouse or an elderly person also. i hope they are caught and soon. And if the dog shooting cases are related, they need to be convicted multiple times over, throw away the key!
