the town was afforded many opportunity to resolve the issue.  the town has made promises to a packed room (12/4/07) and with days, reneged on ALL of them.  The mayor has given multiple reasons for the break-in, none of them ever the same.  Council member Tafra who was present at the break-in denied by omission at the council meeting to having any knowledge of the break-in, although he was one of three people present.  The town denied making the tape until they were confronted with proof they were lying.

When council members could not answer the public questions and the lawyer they deferred EVERY question to, got called on inaccuracies and often blatant lies that would elicit shocked gasps from an entire room of people (he was just that arrogant or ignorant, we’re not sure which).  When they could no longer provide believable answers, attacked the integrity of audience

There was no good reason for the towns actions and that is why they have made a concerted effort to cover the issue and to pointedly tell town residents that they had no right to question them on their actions. (that is not an exaggeration and is on tape. Council meeting, 12/4/07)

What would “drama” following the Dr. have anything to do with the town breaking into a PRIVATELY OWNED business?  Their ownership in the building and a very few donated office supply items means NOTHING.  The town is nothing more than a landlord in this issue, they had no legal authority or right to enter the facility in the manner they did.

Nice try on shifting blame pointing out the “left in unlocked file cabinets”  HUH??  So I suppose a LOCKED DOOR on the building is irrelevant?? The cabinet in a non public area doesn’t matter?

I cannot begin to express how I felt when I viewed the video above.  I am new to the Island and one of Dr. Jenkins’ patients.  I am not involved with any politics on the Island, in fact I do not even know too many people who live here.  So, as an outsider, I have a few questions.  The Mayor indicated that some of the equipment and the building is owned by the City.  This being the case, why was a video of the contents of this building necessary, are legal documents that state ownership not within the Mayor’s office?  This should have been done when the items and building were purchased.  Furthermore, why was the young lady videotaping the contents of each drawer in that filing cabinet?  If my medical records reside in that cabinet, my Federal Rights to Privacy have been compromised and that really bothers me.  I am grateful to the person that has made the community aware of this situation.  What do I do next?

You are forgetting they had to fire the doctors assistant before they could pull this cloack and dagger ####. She was at the office everyday and in constant touch with the Doctor. As you all know this wasn’t the first insane thing the Town Officials have don and I’m sure it won’t be the last. The Doctor had nothing to do with this mess…he was on vacation. Why wait till now to “protect the Towns intrest?“ This looks like an effort to hurt the Town not PROTECT it!!!

I would have to agree with quietdove above.  I live on the Island and know most of the Town of Dauphin Island employees and government officials there.  There was no witch hunt from their side, just an effort to protect what is rightfully theirs as the owner of the facility and those of us whose records were left in unlocked file cabinets.  Unfortunately on a small Island a very small vocal group can make a big noise, right or wrong, and other good and hardworking people suffer the consequences those few create.  There is more to this story, and I believe the Town is doing its best to stay out of the accusation mode and get on with real business that matters to all of the island property owners, businesses, and guests.

I don’t know what the “concerns” the Dauphin Island council had. But, it sounded like they were trying to protect the interests of the town. I think only half the story is being told. And I think in due time, it will show good reason why they video taped the office. As far as violating privacy, I personally didn’t see that on the tape. If the person had opened the file itself and video taped it, I could see a major problem. One can not say what was actually taped, without seeing the video itself. The surveilance tape can not give you that. I have had dealings with Dr. Jenkins before. It did not end well. There seems to be drama surrounding him where ever he goes.

it sounds like dauphin island needs a change starting with the councel members and working up to a suitable level where change is needed for the good of the people who have put there trust in a non working goverment.———t———.

It’s about time someone asked the Town of Dauphin Island officials who they REALLY think they are. What will we find out next??? How can the residents of Dauphin ever trust their town government again??? This was shocking and spooky to say the very least.
