Mobile County Commission President Steve Nodine "Boeing has committed and demeaned the Dept of Defense and the Air Force and politically terrorized the Air Force into a position of a no-win situation when it comes to procurement of the tanker."
Mobile Mayor Sam Jones " We were told that there would be a competition that would end in December. Now, there's no competition at all now. Everyone suffers as a result of that. I certainly hope this is not indicative to the decision making process by the Department of Defense on other issues of national defense."
Bay Haas, Executive Director Mobile Airport Authority "This is an outrage. I'm not disappointed, I'm disgusted that we would be here today. 44 years ago in a presidential election, we voted one way and the other side won. They voted to close down this military base, Brookley Air Force. It was the largest military base closure in the history. We were punished with presidential politics and now we're back again."
Mobile Chamber of Commerce President Win Hallett " Hw many times do we have to win this thing before its ours? Boeing has hijacked it twice. We don't know if they're going to play by the rules next time around and what's to say they aren't just gonna find a way to give it to Boeing."

rosepetal there isnt enough space here to go into what went into the the base closings of the 60’s. i have done extensive research for DOD about the base closings and the impact, including the two instances i mentioned, walker and lincoln. i have wnadered around roswell and other locations in the middle of the day and where a few years ago they were bustling little cities they are now ghost towns. it still breaks my heart to go to greenville mississippi to thier old base, they have not done as good of a job as mobile and Bay Haas has done reusing the old facilities. I still dont buy that mobile was closed because of a political decision. we were changing from prop to jet transport and it was more efficient to shift the work to texas and mclellan, wehre there was more space to fly and the work was more concentrated.the dod was getting smaller even then. email me and i wil forward some of what i have written and collected as a dod historian and retired USAF pilot who actually flew one
