international space station ahead of docking, scheduled for this
afternoon.
On board the shuttle is a billion dollar Japanese space lab
waiting to be attached to the space station. There's also a new
pump that hopefully fixes the only toilet on board the space
station. That toilet has been broken for more than a week.
Before parking at the space station, commander Mark Kelly will
guide Discovery through a slow backflip so the station residents
can photograph the shuttle's underside.
About five pieces of insulating foam broke off Discovery's
external fuel tank during Saturday's liftoff, and one or two of
them may have hit the shuttle.
NASA officials aren't too worried about damage because the foam
losses occurred after the crucial first two minutes of the flight
and the fragments appeared to be thin and flimsy.
