A train derailed around Thursday afternoon as it was crossing Rangeline Road south of Hamilton Boulevard. The wheels of five train cars came detached from the rails. According to State Troopers the train operated by CSX is loaded with rocks. Both the north and southbound lanes of Rangeline Road are blocked. Alabama State Troopers urge the public to avoid the area. A detour has been set up from Laurendine Road to Bellingrath Road to Highway 90 for northbound traffic and the reverse for southbound vehicles. Workers had hoped to clear three of the four lanes by early Thursday according to State Trooper spokesperson Cpl. Joe Piggott, but rainy weather it seems has hampered those efforts. A worker on scene tells News 5 they are aiming to have the road openeed by midnight and removal may take all night.
