Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Deputies obtained a search warrant and raided Raymond Teamer's home in Milton Monday night.
The department says Teamer has been breeding pit bull dogs for dog fights.

Deputies found 30 pit bulls on Teamer's property. The investigators say the dogs were chained to steel posts. The sheriff's office says most of the dogs had wounds consistent with dog fighting. Some of the dogs found were puppies. The dogs were taken to the Humane Society of Escambia County, Alabama and the Santa Rosa Animal Shelter. Raymond Teamer is charged with possession of fighting dogs. Other charges against him are pending the outcome of the investigation. The sheriff's office believes Teamer was invloved in dog fights in several states.

Does anyone know what is going on w/ this case?  In Mobile, officials just seize dogs and return them, even though they’re injured and have obviously been used to fight.  Where the heck are the vets in the area that are treating these tortured dogs?  Someone needs to make the laws and punishments tougher.

So should some people.

I also hope that the media will continue to report on this case.  I would like to see the follow through and end result.

I can’t thank WKRG enough for their strong support of the animal cruelty issues. I occasionally look at other news sites for their reports, but WKRG is the only one that consistently reports these stories. I appreciate the forum discussions. This allows everyone to express their views and concerns. While everyone may not have the same opinion, it does allow us to see that these are big issues. Issues that need to be taken seriously and resolved.

There are so many private citizens that are outraged about animal cruelty and dog fighting.  There should be private agencies - not the SPCA - that support and participate in our efforts to address abuse matters.  We are the voice for the poor pit bulls that are chained and tortured and thrown into a “pit” to fight and possibly die or be mutilated and then killed by the organizers themselves.  Every time I see a photograph of one of the battered dogs, I want to cry.  Then I want to call our local officials and scream “WHY DON’T YOU DO SOMETHING.” Fortunately for all of us, WKRG and these great reporters have not let the subject die.  While private individuals may be the “voice” for the animals, the news media is the loudspeaker.  We all need to turn up the volume.  It is a brutal sport and there should be a single telephone line to call and report it.  This business of calling every animal shelter in the county is absurd.  The SPCA gave me disconnected telephone numbers. It took me hours to report a dog fighting case in Prichard.  All of these criminals need to be prosecuted and all of these lazy cruelty investigators need to be fired.

It should absolutely be about the animals. How can you call yourself a “shelter” or “rescue” or “society for prevention of cruelty to animals” if you are not ABOUT the animals. If you go there for just a paycheck and not to actually help the animals, maybe its time to find a different job. It is sad that on other forums, some people who claim to work in animal welfare, are contributing to the problem by not be able to admit that perhaps the system does need to change. I know that famous line many of us have heard when trying to make a cruelty report-"Everything is fine.” That must be in their training manual. Maybe they have to recite it like a mantra.

I continue to applaud the diligent, hard work of those investigators in the counties who are proving, time and again, that they do take cruelty seriously. I applaud that they are willing to investigate and prosecute.

It is a shame that the SPCA is anyone’s “empire” as Clementine said.  Apparently there is a motivation there besides saving and helping animals.  Animal rights shouldn’t have anything to do with anyone’s ego or some kind of power struggle.  Anyone involved in saving animals and protecting them should do so out of a true passion, not political or career motivation.  If this is how the local SPCA is being run then the city and county and other sources of funding should step in a investigate and get control of it.  The SPCA shouldn’t be about “people” it should be about the animals themselves.  Why isn’t there a hot line number set up in this community for people to call and report dog fighting and cruelty and neglect?  It would inspire more bystanders to take action and do something about it.  Even those that are passionate about the cause get kicked in the teeth when we report it and nothing ever gets done.

Peachieblue, you are not the first to try and “topple” Ms. Flott’s SPCA empire.  She doesn’t want help from outsiders, especially those that challenge her methods and philosophies.  My friends and I would gladly attend meetings.  There are alternatives.  There are private cruelty and rescue groups all over the state that form for reasons just such as this.  Apparently Ms. Flott is more concerned about being the supreme commander in chief than she is with actual animal protection issues.  This dog figthing thing is absolutely horrendous and to think that it took me three hours to finally report it makes me understand why most people don’t - they give up.  There isn’t an agency in this area that truly cares.

Ok.....I personally went to the Mobile SPCA to talk about organizing an Animal Cruelty task force for 2 straight years.  I offered my services and abilities FREE OF CHARGE, not like I would have done otherwise anyway, and was continuously turned down.  I felt as if Ms. Flott enjoyed her autonomy and power just a little too much.  As I stated in other postings, everyone who believes in this cause needs to start showing up at City Council meetings on Tuesday mornings at 10am in the auditorium of Government Plaza.  We need to inform......let’s start at the top then!!!!!!!

No animal should have to go through what those poor dogs do. Nor the bait dogs and other animals that are used to train them. I go all over Mobile with my job, I am in just about every community there is as a home health nurse. It never ceases to amaze me the numbers of pitbulls that are out there. Some may be legitimate family pets. But others I wonder. Are they used for fighting? For guarding drugs? I see packs of pitbulls in neighborhoods in the city as well as in rural areas. Some appear cared for, others not. I think a task force of some kind would be great. If law enforcement could be the first line of defense, maybe some of these cases would actually get prosecuted. And perhaps alot more than dog-fighting would be found too-like drugs, etc.
