Students roll in to class as usually today, despite the fact many feel like they shouldn't even be there.

“I thought we was going to be out of school because you know a dude committed suicide,” says student Jarrod Minniefield. As students hang out at a nearby gas station, the events of Thursday hit one young man especially hard.

“Man I was scared,” says Jajuan McDuffie. “That was my homeboy, but I was scared, it was a shock to me why he did that.”

Jajuan McDuffie says he was there when his longtime friend 18-year-old Jajuan Holmes pointed a gun to his head and pulled the trigger. McDuffie says he'll always remember his friend.

“We always played basketball together man,” says McDuffie. “We did a lot of things and we did a lot of bad things together but that was my homeboy that was my friend and he died.” Many students say they'll try to focus on their studies but it'll likely be distracted, as they try to continue with their lives.

“Man you just have to move on with your life man,” says McDuffie. “It's just sad though why he did that he had everybody shocked everybody crying at the school.”

I feel sorry for the family of this young man. And, for the students and their families that are also effected. Mr. McDuffie made a good point though. They did a lot of bad things together. Hopefully more homeboys will see from this that when you do bad things it will stay with you. This young man was not able to deal with what he may have to pay for the bad things he had gotten into. It is terrible to lose one young person, but hopefully this will wake up others you may be headed down this same road. Maybe this can effect some other young people in a positive.

First I want to say my heart goes out to the family of this young man. My question in no way meant to take lightly their sadness. Why was this young man allowed back into the school when he was out on bond for 3 armed robberies? What if he had taken someone innocent, someone else’s child with him. Who would have taken responsibility for that?
