Plans are off the table to add 120 units to a Daphne apartment complex.
The Daphne City Council was scheduled to vote Monday night on a zoning change that would have paved the way for the controversial addition.
The developer of Grande Pointe apartments wanted the council to approve a zoning change.
However, Daphne Mayor Fred Small said the council didn't even get a chance to vote on the idea.
Small said, "I think it was the end of last week (that) the developer pulled the Grande Pointe from the (council) agenda. It was very obvious that what they were going to do was just not going to meet what the public expectations were for that property."
But Small says there could still be other plans to develop the land.
He says, "From my understanding, they may be looking at a different direction to go in there, with single family homes, which that's what it’s zoned for."
At least one Daphne resident we spoke with thinks that's a good idea.
Michael Sager said, "If you have let's see 50 or 60 houses, I can't imagine any more being put on that, it will be much different. It will be more controllable traffic-wise, I think."
The Daphne City Council is scheduled to talk about the latest plans by the developer of Grande Pointe Apartments at a work session September 19th.
