Chaos Monday evening in the parking lot of a Mobile shopping center off Dauphin Street. Mobile Police say a man told officers he thought someone put a bomb in his car because it was making a ticking sound. Officers roped off the area around the man's car with yellow crime scene tape. Two police officers removed the man from his car and took him off to the side. A little later, emergency crews were seen checking him out. Police say he was taken to a hospital for evaluations. A Mobile Police officer told News 5 that no explosives were found, but the man's car was making a ticking sound. Police believe that sound was because of a mechanical malfunction.

WELL if it wasn’t a bomb or a fresh set of energizers in his pace maker, or his timex, You know the kind that take a licking and keeps on ticking, then it must have been that left turn blinker that he’s had on for the last 3 years. It didn’t take our CSI team but and hour or two to find out how to turn it off. grin

I have got to tell you all that this poor man is not a “high profile” citizen.  I just know this. I have to agree with “oochocinco” from above.  This person guessed right!  A trip to the mental hospital or rather a “relocation” to the mental hospital should be in order.  I also do not think he is elderly.  Maybe in his mid to late 50s?.  Still young enough to know better but the “ticking” I think is ALL IN HIS OWN HEAD. Personally, if his “ticking” is not ticking properly, I’d run.  Wouldn’t want to be around him. This might explain why the man could not perhaps get someone to drive him. I really think the only resolution for this poor man is a trip to the (as Carl would say["SlingBlade"]) “nervous hospital” is in order.  I wonder if “mustard and biscuits” would help, hmmmmmmm. Seemingly a great job by the officers on the scene though.

This elderly man shouldn’t have been driving seeing the obvious state of his physical condition. He doesn’t seem to be suffering financially wise so he could have gotten someone to drive and help him. A lot of our senior citizens are too stubborn to admit they are no longer physically or mentally fit to be out there on the road driving them selves. Some probably have no choice but to do so but I’m willing to bet most could get help on transportation, just another problem that needs a suitable resolution for all involved.

And it was a great job by the police. Don’t you see how carefully and gently they dragged him out of harms way, and laid him on the nice comfortable grass. Man, they could have slung him over their shoulder and body slammed him to the ground! And they professionally and methodically checked out the car. All in a days work!

Mercedes, we must think alike-because I was going to say something about a pacemaker too. Oh well, great minds think alike! Yeah, a bomb would have been my first thought too-lol.

This high profile senior citizen is so hot getting pulled out of his fine Intrepid, is this a new option for this car, a grandma walker holder on the roof? Love it! Maybe a trip to the mental unit is in order too! Bang up job by the police.

As i’ve said before MERCEDES, you missed your calling. That’s one of the better ones. grin

Good observation. The walker leads me to believe the ticking the man heard was probably coming from his pacemaker. Maybe his doctor just put in fresh batteries. You can’t be too careful these days, especially if you’re a high profile senior citizen living in Mobile, Alabama. My question is: Where was this man’s bodyguard?!!! I hope we can all learn a lesson from this!

The walker on top of the car says a lot about this case, unless of course if it belonged to the policeman and was being used in a foot chase after a criminal, you gotta love their determination to get their man.
