LAS VEGAS (AP) - The New Frontier casino-hotel in Las Vegas is
no more.
The 16-story hotel tower was felled with over 1,000 pounds of
explosives today before a group of reporters and bystanders. The
implosion makes way for a multibillion-dollar resort bearing The
Plaza brand, which is set to open in 2011.
The hotel was imploded early this morning after a booming
fireworks display, putting an end to the second property to open on
the Las Vegas Strip.
The New Frontier was the oldest surviving hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip. It opened during World War II.
