Governor Bob Riley is asking Alabamians to help find the state’s next Christmas tree. This year’s annual Christmas tree lighting is scheduled for December 7th at the State Capitol. Governor Riley is searching for someone who is willing to donate a tree for the occasion, preferably an eastern red cedar between 35-45' tall. Tree specialists with the Alabama Department of Transportation will cut it down and transport the tree to the Capitol building.
“Each year I’ve been governor, someone has donated a spectacular Alabama tree for this very special event. This year, we’re asking citizens to join us in the search because we haven’t found one yet,” Governor Riley said.
Anyone with a recommendation for a tree should contact the Governor’s Office at 334.242.7100.
