Aubrey Lynn Shaw, 32, is charged with two counts of capital murder. He was arrested Monday afternoon in his mother's house, next door to where the victims, Bob Gilbert, 79, and his 83 year old wife, Doris, were found dead.
"He took two lives and we've only got one to take," said Darla Furby, a close friend of the Gilberts, who says she wants to see prosecutors pursue the death penalty in this case. "He should give his life for theirs," said Furby.
Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran says Shaw has been in and out of jail for the last fifteen years. His arrest record shows dozens of previous burglary and robbery charges.
Monday, Cochran told News Five he believes Shaw was trying to steal money from the Gilberts when he killed them.
Shaw's bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday morning, but District Attorney John Tyson says he expects a judge to deny the bond because this is a capital murder case.
