The man accused of brutally killing an elderly Irvington couple, then leading officers on a day long manhunt could face the death penalty.
Aubrey Lynn Shaw, 32, is charged with two counts of capital murder. He was arrested Monday afternoon in his mother's house, next door to where the victims, Bob Gilbert, 79, and his 83 year old wife, Doris, were found dead.
"He took two lives and we've only got one to take," said Darla Furby, a close friend of the Gilberts, who says she wants to see prosecutors pursue the death penalty in this case. "He should give his life for theirs," said Furby.
Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran says Shaw has been in and out of jail for the last fifteen years. His arrest record shows dozens of previous burglary and robbery charges.
Monday, Cochran told News Five he believes Shaw was trying to steal money from the Gilberts when he killed them.
Shaw's bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday morning, but District Attorney John Tyson says he expects a judge to deny the bond because this is a capital murder case.

(1) Over the past week, I have browsed the comments forum of this article. I have avoided making any comments out of respect for the Gilbert family. Now that the memorial service’s and funeral is over, I would like to take a moment to comment and clarify a few things.

Who begged Helen and Tommy not to call the cops every time he beat the crap out of Mr. Tommy??? Thats right his mom. So i feel for no one but the GILBERT family. They are the ones who suffer. I AM NOT DEFENDING HIS ACTIONS, I’M SAYING THAT THIS COULD HAVE ALL BEEN PREVENTED!!!! If they all really cared for him, they would have made sure he got the help he needed, instead of covering his actions every time he screwed up!!!

The major point here is, our government had him several times, and had they have locked him up for good, or made sure he was properly rehabilitated, these deaths could have been prevented. You keep saying you feel for his mom, but yet she defended him every time he screwed up! I was there when the paving og Argyle Rd was going on and he stole one of the workers trucks, while they were in the woods surveying. Guess who was begging them not to call the police??? Thats right his mom.

DE3571 my name is Darrell, and the only person i remember helping besides me and Len was James Levenski, and i don’t smoke that crap no more, so don’t come on here saying i do, and i know the facts, i know the whole family, so if you were around i know you too, I was there, side by side, yeah i smoked crack too, but i woke up and realized where it was gonna lead me before it was too late!!!

I pray for all of you that judge and think you are without sin we all have broke at least one 10 comandments remeber us in pray let this be in Gods hands not ours

I dont know tara so i cant say anything about her but i have heard 3 or 4 different stories about what she said happened so who knows if his mom told her that or not if they didnt want the police called dont you think lynn would have went and just stole a car its not like he doesnt know how

as far as you helping around the place i’ve been out there all my life and don’t remember you but maybe because i didn’t smoke crack so we can sit here and bash each other, the system are anybody else but the only person to blame is lynn

dew26m you talk about being around you are just someone he is living a pipe dream you say daniel is the blame that lets me know just what kind of pipe has you dreaming lynn has had the devil in him and daniel was not even coming out there much so quit trying to be somebody you are not

The truth here is simply that they had a chance to prevent these murders, it’s no big secret that he had a severe problem. We all knew it, and no one attempted to correct it, imprisonment alone is not enough to remove the urge to do crack, all this does is makes you mad at the system, and makes you wanna get even. I love Len alot, and i’m so glad that i removed this substance from my life, and i never went this far.

And i’m not bashing no one but the SYSTEM, they had him several time, and should have made sure he was fit for the streets before releasing him, but don’t come up here defending everyone, espically those who never sought the proper help he needed
