After more than a year of talking and planning, Broad Street near downtown Mobile is getting a makeover. The city of Mobile is improving the lighting, repairing the sidewalks and adding a median with tress and shrubs.
It's all in an effort to make the area more family friendly.
Another added bonus is that broad street leads to Brookley Field, which is home to the new 40-billion dollar tanker deal with Northrop Grumman/EADS.
"When anytime you're competing on a global scale and you have people coming to your city from all over the world, would you not want your street to be beautiful as a gateway into an area where everybody from around the world will be coming to see what types of products that Mobile can build?" said Mobile City Councilman William Carroll.
You can expect to see added crosswalks and a bike trail.
No word yet on when all the improvements will be finished.
