The Baldwin County Highway
Department has closed the following two bridges on Truck Trail 17, due to unsafe
conditions:
The Bridge over Reedy Creek (5.8 miles east of Highway 59)
and
The Bridge over Hollinger Creek (3.0 miles west of County Road 64)
During a routine inspection, a team of Certified Bridge Inspectors from the
Baldwin County Highway Department found that severe damage and deterioration
has been caused to both bridges making them unsafe for any vehicular travel.
Although a 3-ton maximum truck load limit is posted for the bridges, the damage
observed appears to be caused by heavy truck loads crushing many of the critical
structure timber components and causing other significant damage to the bridges.
The Baldwin County Highway Department is working at this time to evaluate the
structures to determine what means will have to be taken to remedy the damage.
The bridges will remain closed to protect the safety of Baldwin County residents
until further notice from the Baldwin County Highway Department.
