Ground was broken on ThyssenKrupp's 3.7 Billion Dollar Steel Mill in Calvert. 40-ton bulldozers are now clearing the land of the 3,500-acres along the Tombigbee River. Calvert now has a traffic light and signs of progress are visible from the Highway 43 just north of Mount Vernon.

The actual construction phase will begin next year. During the next three years, almost 30-thousand construction workers will build the mill. Once it's up and running, there will be 27-hundred permanent jobs.
