Mobile Police are trying to identify the body of a man found Tuesday afternoon in a Mobile creek. They said the body was found in the Bolton Branch of the Dog River near Navco Road and McVay Drive.
Shawn Philbrick said he was unpacking a truck at a nearby store when he made the discovery.
Philbrick said, "I was unloading over here at Family Dollar and me and another guy saw a body."
Jay Stall said he was also near the waterway watching the truck being unloaded.
Stall said, "Whenever the water rose up about 15 minutes I looked over, saw the body."
Mobile police say they were notified by a caller about 2:00.
Spokesperson Nancy Johnson said, "We came down and found a white male unidentified. We don't know anything more than that."
It took police about two hours to recover the body.
Johnson said, "We had to call out our dive team and they had to go out and retrieve the body and bring it in."
But when asked if there were any obvious wounds or clues to a cause of death, Johnson said, "That also will be revealed through the autopsy. Its not apparent what occurred."
The discovery disturbed people who live in the neighborhood.
Bonnie Bell said, "I live off McVay and I was passing by and I saw all the people standing out here and I was like, 'Whoa, what's going on?' "
Roshawon Austin said, "Its like quiet and nice and it ain't too loud."
Mobile Police are asking if you have any information on this case to call them at 208-7211.
