FORT MORGAN, Ala. (AP) - Birdwatchers begin their annual trek to
Fort Morgan Peninsula this weekend for the start of the spring bird
banding session that continues through April 11th at the Fort
Morgan State Historic Site.
Thousands of migratory birds are returning from warmer climates
south of the border. The banding activities will began daily just
before dawn and end around noon. Organizers say the best hours are
early morning.
Last year, just over 1,800 birds representing 76 different
species were recorded by the Hummer/Bird Study Group that organizes
the Fort Morgan event.
Participants may want to bring a lawn chair, binoculars and
insect repellant but leave pets at home. There is no charge for
this annual event but participants must pay the admission to Fort
Morgan to gain access to the banding station.
