There is a difference between a cyclist and a bicycle rider. A cyclist does know the rules of the road and will ride as defensively as he can. The bicycle rider is not as well educated on road safety and that may be because of where the bike is purchased (bike shop vs. Wal-mart). Regardless both have a right to the road in all 50 states except on major highways and interstates where there is a minimum speed. Also, how many times has there been a news report of a motorist being killed by a druken cyclist?
it would be great if cyclist were as perfect as Phil Hooper claims. I live in an area with paved bike paths where the cyclist ride on the edge of the highway rather than use the path. some ride with the traffic some against the traffifc. many cut across the highway with out signals or even looking for traffic. at night many have no lights but continue to use the highway and not the expensive bike path you never know if the cyclist is going to ride on the shoulder or cut in front of you to get to the other side. ALL CYCLIST ARE NOT PERFECT and all motorist are not unaware of the cyclist rights as well as their own rights.

Hey cyclist,
Out west, bicycles are allowed on interstates in some areas. BTW, I do like your on-line name.
