Big change has come to the small town of Calvert since German steel maker, ThyssenKrupp, moved to the neighborhood. Construction is well underway on ThyssenKrupp's multi-billion dollar steel plant. ThyssenKrupp's Director of Communications, Scott Posey, says construction at the plant site just off Highway 43 in North Mobile County is moving right along schedule and neighbors will see even more change in Calvert,"we're still planning on having the doors opened at 2010, the first quarter, to welcome 27-hundred employees for Thyssenkrupp Steel and Stainless," said Posey. Posey also said,"State D.O.T has awarded the contracts for the fly over over Highway 43 within the last two or three weeks that they're going to be building, so, there's going to be a lot of changes on Highway 43 outside the site." ThyssenKrupp is also bringing almost 3-thousand jobs to town. We're told nearly 9-thousand people have applied so far. The company is doing interviews right now and the first employees will be hired in a couple of months. If you missed the first deadline to turn in your application, don't worry, Posey says other rounds of hiring are expected.
