The head of the Mobile County Democratic Party tells News 5 Lodmell officially withdrew his name from the District 1 race on Thursday. That leaves Democratic candidate Tommy Fuller as the lone challenger of the Republican incumbent, Congressman Joe Bonner of Mobile.
Lodmell was one of 75 people arrested in a two week undercover prostitution sting. He was arrested January 31 for soliciting a prostitute at a Daphne Hotel.Back in February, Lodmell's attorney told News 5 that his client would continue his campaign for Congress. “He’s a committed candidate,” said Dennis Knizley. “He’s put a lot of his personal money in this and he intends to go forward with his campaign,” Knizley said.
But then came Thursday's announcement. His campaign website, www.benjaminlodmellforcongress.com/08/, has also been shut down.
Lodmell, who has a wife and school age children, is scheduled to be in a Baldwin County next Thursday on the misdemeanor solicitation charge.
