NICEVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities have euthanized a 215-poundblack bear after it opened the door to a Panhandle house and tried
to enter.
It ran into the woods after the homeowner yelled at it.
Officials say the bear was one of two that have been raiding
neighborhoods in Niceville and Valparaiso for food.
Andrew Jernigan of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission says this bear crossed the line with the door incident.
The agency's policy holds that if a bear goes inside a human
structure, it's become too comfortable with humans.
Niceville Police Lieutenant Randy Sallee says the homeowner was
cooking at the time and that the bear smelled the food.
