"I think everyone in the neighborhood is fed up with it," says Randall Wick.
For years, people who live in the 400 block of Dauphin Street have fought to shut down what's been a series of night clubs at 455 Dauphin Street. In May, News Five first aired home video showing what neighbors say is bar patrons vomiting and urinating on the sidewalk.
"It's not that I'm opposed to the club itself. I'm opposed to the way they disrespect their neighbors," says Chuck Nickles, who showed up at Tuesday's Mobile City Council meeting hoping to encourage council members to deny a liquor license to the latest club opening up in the infamous building.
"There is some concern about whether the previous owner will get back involved at some point, but that's a bridge we'll have to cross when we get there," said Councilwoman Connie Hudson, who insists the council had no choice but to grant the license.
Since last spring, the club has been renamed The Alabama Music Box, and at least on paper it has new owners, but neighbors insist the problems are exactly the same.
"There was a young man who exposed his genitals to those standing around," says Bruce Moseley, referring to new home video he says was recorded in the last few weeks. "There's drumming at 3 o'clock in the morning for no necessary reason, and there's a lot of loud noise that's taking place," says Moseley.
David Matthews, co-owner of The Alabama Music Box, showed up at the council meeting to defend his bar, telling News Five they will clean up their act. "After hearing the severity of it will will step it up," says Matthews. "I don't want to lose the privilege to sell alcohol. "
Matthews assured us the previous owner, who was caught selling alcohol to minors, will not be a part of his new business. "They can come have a drink with us, but no," says Matthews.
The city council unanimously approved the bar's liquor license, but told the owners they will be watched.
